RTE, Symphonics remotely controls solar power plants in operation and improves the profitability of the photovoltaic sector

Paris, November 25, 2025
Against a difficult backdrop for the French solar industry, Symphonics confirms its role as an approved balancing player and supports solar power plant operators in a new way: active participation in the balancing mechanism managed by RTE, enabling additional income and better optimization of installations.
A solar industry under pressure
The French solar industry is going through a critical period. Despite the ambitious targets set out in the French National Low-Carbon Strategy (SNBC), photovoltaic development is slowing down. Rising construction costs, grid saturation, slow connection times and renegotiated feed-in tariffs are weighing heavily on project profitability.
A new source of income for solar power plants thanks to Symphonics
The order of September 8, 2025, which now authorizes solar farms to access additional income via the balancing market, opens up a new perspective.
Solar power plants, including those in operation, can benefit from additional income thanks to the intervention of Symphonics, an approved balancing actor. At RTE 's request, Symphonics remotely shuts down the power plant to secure the grid.
The producer is then remunerated for the energy not produced during the shutdown.
This system works for all operating power plants, even those with a purchase obligation contract in S21*.
Symphonics revitalizes the solar industry
This is a breath of fresh air for the industry, which can now turn a constraint (i.e. intermittent production) into an economic opportunity.
By integrating into the grid's balancing mechanisms, solar power producers play a key role in the energy mix.
stability of the power system while boosting the profitability of their facilities.
*The S21 decree regulates purchase obligation contracts for photovoltaic installations commissioned since 2022. It applies to power plants with a capacity of ≤ 500 kWp and defines their tariff conditions applicable for 20 years.
"The French solar industry needs to reinvent itself. Symphonics provides a concrete response: making flexibility a driver of profitability. Thanks to our balancing and aggregation solutions, solar power plants have access to new sources of revenue, while contributing to the stability of the power grid," says Mathieu Rochardfounder and CEO of Symphonics.
