Symphonics is launching a service tailored to EDF's SMART OA platform to support solar power producers

Generating solar power is no longer enough to guarantee revenue: at certain times, producers must reduce or halt their output to comply with market rules. Symphonics, a specialist in smart energy management and an electricity supplier, announces the launch of a support service tailored to EDF’s SMART OA feed-in tariff program, designed to help operators manage these new constraints and secure their revenue.

This measure is part of the supplementary compensation mechanism, as defined in particular by Article L.314-20 of the Energy Code. It requires electricity producers—particularly those with large-scale facilities—to suspend or reduce their production during periods of negative market prices.

Adjust production in real time

Today, solar power producers must be able to adjust their output almost in real time. The SMART OA system operates based on instructions sent by EDF’s Feed-in Tariff program, instructing producers to reduce or temporarily halt output.

These guidelines are accessible via a dedicated API¹ and require coordination among several parties: power plant monitoring systems (EMS², SCADA³), aggregators, and operators. Compliance with these guidelines is essential because producers’ compensation depends directly on it. Failure to comply can result in significant financial losses.

Symphonics' solution makes it easier to manage these new obligations

Symphonics has developed recognized expertise in managing solar power plants by offering to compensate them through balancing or aggregation services.
To further support producers, Symphonics is innovating and offering a solution that addresses all needs related to shutdowns due to negative prices:

  • Integration of EDF’s SMART OA API on behalf of the producer
  • Automation of trading signals based on market prices
  • Dynamic power adjustment for power plants
  • Monitoring and tracking of completed operations

This offering leverages Symphonics’ expertise in real-time control and energy optimization, with over 400,000 production, storage, and consumption devices under management.

A challenge that is both regulatory and economic in a volatile market

Beyond compliance with regulatory requirements, there is also an economic stake: minimizing losses associated with electricity that is generated but not sold, and aligning production with market conditions.

Thanks to its integrated approach, Symphonics offers operators a robust, automated solution that reduces operational risks and maximizes the value of production assets.

¹Thisis a computer interface that allows two systems to automatically exchange instructions (to stop or reduce production).

²EMS (Energy Management System), which manages and optimizes energy production.

³SCADA, which monitors equipment in real time (monitoring, remote control).
