Symphonics with Sungrow to develop a model for standalone batteries connected to the grid

Symphonics, a French scale-up specializing in smart energy management, flexibility, energy recovery, and energy supply, announces the development—in partnership with Sungrow, the global leader in battery storage solutions—of a standalone battery model connected to the power grid, designed to serve as a new growth driver for the renewable energy sector.

This innovation marks a key milestone in the deployment of distributed storage, enabling autonomous batteries, independent of any production or consumption, to be controlled, aggregated, and monetized on flexibility markets, thereby contributing to the stability of the electrical system.

Already an aggregator, flexibility operator, balancing provider, and energy supplier, Symphonics to develop its solutions across the entire electricity value chain.

With these standalone batteries connected directly to the power grid, Symphonics Sungrow demonstrated at the end of the year their ability to manage energy assets in real time, thereby leveraging flexibility in the energy and reserve markets.

Unlike batteries traditionally paired with renewable energy generation, this model is connected directly to the power grid, making it a fully deployable asset for Symphonics trading activities.

For example, installing two 125 kW Sungrow Powerstacks on an existing low-voltage connection could yield an estimated return on investment of between 5 and 6 years for projects installed from the first half of 2026 onwards.

The decline in technology costs, combined with the increasing volatility of energy prices and reserve mechanisms, is making this model more attractive to investors and players in the electricity system.

Performance validated in real-world conditions

The recycling of these batteries imposes particularly high technical requirements, especially in terms of responsiveness.

Teams from Symphonics,Sungrow Europe, andSB ENERGYconducted a field test to validate the control of Sungrow’s Powerstack batteries by the Symphonics platform.

 

The results confirm the maturity of the model:

  • Response time less than 500 milliseconds, compatible with the requirements of the secondary reserve market (aFRR);
  • Direct battery control by Symphonics, without modifying the existing system, during both charging and discharging;
  • Proven interoperability, enabling optimal utilization of assets directly connected to the network.
